Lawn Spraying and the Environment

The spray I use is a blend of plant nutrients (fertilizer), herbicides (weed killer), insecticide and a “sticker” . The sticker is an organic product that bonds the mixture to the grass leaf. The sticker is an important part of the spray because the sticker allows the leaf to become an organic carrier for the mixture. Once I spray the leaf , the mixture bonds to the leaf and as the leaf is wetted, mowed, rewetted, the mixture is slowly released in microscopic layers, constantly feeding the plant and kills the weeds and bugs.

It is the most effective and environmentally friendly method to care for a St Augustine lawn.

Uses Less Energy

Lawn spraying eliminates a manufacturing step needed to make granular products. To produce a granular product, you take the liquid and encapsulate it or solidify it with heat and pressure and place the product in a bag. I take the raw products and a sticker and make the “granular” product on site, saving energy.

Less Pollution

Liquid sprays with a sticker hit the target, stick to the target and stay close the target. Granular products  go everywhere – including sidewalks, drives and streets and eventually down the drain on your street. Also granular products contain “filler” – sometimes this is sand, lime or byproducts from manufacturing to be disposed of on your lawn.

Less Nitrogen

Granular products are produced for mass markets at large regional manufacturing plants. The blends rarely are exactly what I need for Pinellas County soils and climate. Consequently I apply more of one nutrient to get the right amount of another. But with liquid sprays I can custom blend on the fly, while I am at your home, to get the most effective blend without excess! Less excess means less nutrients leeching out of the soil into the surrounding water.

Summary

Eliminating energy using manufacturing, direct spray targeting and accurate custom blending makes lawn spraying the most environmentally friendly method of feeding and protecting your St Augustine lawn in Pinellas County. In addition healthy lawns  are the best for the environment - preventing run off of pollutants and soil, reduces dust and  pollen and filters out pollutants that would otherwise enter the surface and ground water.
