Water is the Fuel - Hydretain is the Mileage Extender

Water is the fuel that runs your grass – no water – no growing. Clearly the water restrictions limit this resource so needed by your lawn to be healthy (for more info go to: Turf Topics on Once per Week Watering). It is very stressful on the turf when it only receives supplemental water every 7 days – the turf will decline.

Hydretain

What is Hydretain

Hydretain is a product that will help reduce the stress in-between watering days by holding moisture in the soil and making it available to the turf. It is not a cure, but Hydretain does help – it will reduce the deep cycling in-between watering, reduce the stress and allow the turf to recover quickly when it does rain. When every other yard is brown, yours will be greener and greener longer and greener faster when it does rain.

I offered this product to a select few in 2009 and all have given it positive reviews, saying their lawns looked better than the surrounding lawns. Again it is not a cure only a supplement

How it works

Think of our sandy soils as a bucket with holes in it. You fill it full of water, the water runs out the holes and the bucket is dry. With Hydretain, it is like filling the bucket with a sponge and then filling it full of water – water runs out at first, but a lot of water remains in the sponge and it takes longer for the bucket and sponge to be completely dry.

Facts

Here are some facts about Hydretain:

  • Hydretain has to be a separate application from your normal applications because of its unique properties
  • Costs the same as a regular application
  • Lasts about 3 months
  • Requires watering in immediately following the application so access to the irrigation control clock is required
  • Can be applied anytime - 1x per year or up to 4x per year

Offering

I am offering Hydretain as separate application at the same cost as a regular application. It is highly recommended for lawns using a well or pond  water for irrigation (once per week restrictions). Hydretain should be applied in January and April. I will need good coordination to provide irrigation immediately following the application (the water departments are cool with this daytime watering).
