Emergencies in a lawn are many – insects, disease, weather and even government regulations. These emergencies don’t come with warning lights and gauges. A good agronomist must “read” the lawn and act quickly and save the lawn.

Miss-reading a lawn can lead to disaster. For example early stages of grub damage mimic water stress and many would think it is an irrigation problem. But the time wasted ruling out the irrigation as the problem allows the grub damage to progress and lead to the death of the turf.

Reading a Lawn Takes Knowledge and Experience

I have spent over 30 years learning how to read lawns. As an undergraduate at Va Tech, I studied under the great names in turf science, was mentored by the top Golf Course Superintendents and worked summers as an assistant golf course superintendent. After college I was a superintendent at a resort golf course.

In 1985, I switched from Golf Courses to lawn spraying. Since that switch I have been privileged to have worked with exclusive gated communities, resorts and large private estates in the Destin and Tampa Bay Area.
