EtherRain 8 Irrigation Controller Uses the Internet to Control Your Irrigation System
The EtherRain 8 is a great irrigation controller for lawns and landscapes in Pinellas County. It can control 8 or more zones of irrigation just like many other irrigation controllers, but where other controllers use dials, buttons, arrows and a dim LED readout – EtherRain 8 uses a simple form you fill out on the internet.
I have used an EtherRain 8 for over two years to control my irrigation system. I have a mixed irrigation system of drip, rotors and sprays. The EtherRain 8 is easy to set up for each irrigation zone, watering days and start times using the simple form on the internet.
I have never had to reset the clock, timers or programs because the memory for such things is on the internet – not the timer. And in two years the EtherRain 8 has not failed - even during the summer thunderstorm season. When there was a problem with the system – like a power outage prevented the system from running – I received an email updating me on the status of the system.
You can control your irrigation system from any internet connection – including a smart phone! You can set up a “share code” which allows your landscape tech or property manager or even your neighbor to turn on the system, adjust the system and service your account through the internet or a smartphone. Consider this scenario: The lawn spraying guy sprays your lawn and then uses the “share code” to start an irrigation cycle to water in the application! Perfect!
Installation is simple and similar to other irrigation controllers. You will need to provide a connection to the internet – I installed a wire from my router to the controller. This irrigation controller is not widely available and you will need to be a DIY hobbyist or hire a contractor to install this controller.
