About the Chemicals I Use

Safe Insecticide?

Marigolds contain a Natural InsecticideMarigolds contain a Natural InsecticideMarigolds contain pyrethrin -a plant “juice” that is deadly to bugs – a natural insecticide. Pyrethrins have been a natural part of our environment since creation and to date have been found to have no ill effect on humans or the environment. It would be  a perfect “natural organic” insecticide to use for just about everything from fleas to lawn spraying. But, if I was to juice a marigold in my  ”Jack LaLanne Power Juicer”, I would get one very expensive drop of juice for all my troubles.

However, thirty years ago, scientists duplicated pyrethrums in the laboratory and named the new synthetic pyrethrum pyrethroid. This enabled the low cost production of a naturally occurring insecticide that I can use on your lawns for chinch bugs, ants, mole crickets, grubs and more.

How Safe is it?

Shampoo with PyrethroidsShampoo with PyrethroidsAs safe as soap. I don’t recommend bathing in pyrethroid but the flea shampoo you use on your pet contains pyrethroids – along with many other common use household products for insect control. Not only is it safe but very “green” as it breaks down quickly into harmless elements and does not move from target areas (i.e move in groundwater). These plant “juices” make a natural, safe product for lawn spraying.

Perception is Everything

Perception is everything and most people think that I carry deadly – skull and crossbones -  poisons on my truck and I am destroying the environment. But quite the opposite is true, my lawn spray mixture contains naturally occurring plant “juice” - pyrethroids which are very effective for lawn spraying in miniscule quantities and harmless to man, animals and the environment. Quite frankly, the marigold is more dangerous to you than my lawn spraying!

Summary

Lawn spraying is very safe for you, your family, pets and environment. Consider this: Dish soap mixed with a little vegetable oil and water makes a marginally effective insecticide and the “organic” gardeners consider it a safer, greener, organic alternative to “chemicals”. Yet dish soap is a severe eye irritant, destroys the soil, is high in salt forming sodium and will give you severe stomach cramps and diarrhea if swallowed. But pyrehtroids is an excellent insecticide with no ill effects to eye, skin, digestive tract, lungs, nervous system or the environment – and it cost less than soap!
