Yellow streaks and spots in the lawn are caused by a permanent soil condition. The actual problem is iron chlorosis (iron deficiency) which is – you guessed it – a lack of iron. Chlorophyll and to a small extent the mitochondria contain iron and when there is low iron there is less of these organelles and the turf turns yellow.
SFWMD has new limits on watering: 2x per week. Be sure to check with the table at Pinellas County Water Schedule for your watering days. Interesting note is that SWFMD has not lifted restriction just issued new “limits” on watering, just to let you know that they have a stranglehold on your irrigation water.
Effective July 1st, 2010, SWFMD changed year-round water conservation measures to allow lawn watering twice per week for privately owned wells and lake source irrigation. SWFMD is the non-elected policy making board that is followed by Pinellas County Commissioners for lawn watering restrictions. SWFMD has taken jurisdiction of all water on or below the land you own.

Quite early for Sod Webworms but they have been observed in several locations throughout Pinellas County. This is a strong indicator that this will be a boom year for Sod Webworms.
St Augustine turf cannot survive without water. It has no capacity to store up water, it cannot move to a wet spot, take a drink and then return and it cannot produce water. St Augustine is wholly dependent upon the soil for all it needs – especially water. If the soil is dry, the St Augustine turf is dry. A dry soil weakens turf, thins the canopy, opens up areas to invasion by weeds and - unless corrected by rain or irrigation – kills turf!
